It took a team of plumbers in melbourne to get all of the plumbing done during our apartment building renovations. There are 143 units in the building. That is 143 toilets, bathroom sinks and kitchen sinks. Plus there are 143 dishwashers, utility tubs and clothes washing machine hookups. On top of that there are 143 bathtubs and showers because each apartment has one of each. All of the plumbing infrastructure was installed before the walls were closed up with drywall and tile. The plumbers came back after floors and walls were done to install the appliances such as the toilets.
This apartment building was originally built back in the early 1960s. We decided to renovate it because this is a very well built building that deserves to have another generation or two of tenants enjoy its quiet parklike surroundings. It is a massive stone and brick building that we had professionally sandblasted to restore its original look. The transformation was so amazing after removing the years of grime that we were excited what the internal remodeling would bring. There was very little structural damage revealed when the building was gutted to the bare framing. A long standing roof leak caused some damage on the northern part of the top floor that was easily repaired.
People who visit the building not knowing its history all think it is brand new. When we tell them it is a little over 50 years old they cannot believe it. It just goes to show you that some of the old architecture was built so well that it is still viable for commercial use a half century after it was first built. Plus, it is very good for the environment to not have to tear a building down and rebuild something new in its place.
